Buying

1. When buying a car you should always set yourself a budget which includes insurance, road tax and other running costs.

2. Always compare the market. Make sure and look at all the models of your specified choice to make sure you’re getting a good deal. But be careful if the price is too low, it could be a scam.

3. You could save hundreds of pounds by haggling with the seller. Ask if they’re open to reasonable offers.

4. When making an offer, have 3 prices in your head - the price you would love to pay, a good deal and the very most you would pay for the car.

5. If a seller refuses to haggle, say you’re a cash buyer and that you will take the car right away. This will help lower the price.

6. Check the VIN (Vehicle Identity Number) of the car to make sure that it has not been stolen or crashed. You can find the VIN number under the bonnet just under the windscreen. It’s a combination of 17 letters and numbers and make sure it matches the VIN on the log book.
